Solos evening

Solos Evening 2025

Last Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 March, students from 1st, 2nd and Pre-professional Years performed a range of solo variations from the classical repertoire in the Linden Theatre at Upper School for our donors, staff and parents. The students had been studying these solos for their school assessments and were thrilled to have another performance opportunity this term ahead of our Summer Performances.

Students danced solos from The Sleeping Beauty, La Sylphide, Birthday Offering, Cinderella, Coppélia, The Nutcracker, Grand Pas Classique, Don Quixote, Giselle, La Esmeralda, Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux, La Bayadère, and Paquita.

This year’s Solos Evening honoured the memory of renowned English dancer, former teacher and Associate Director of the School, Barbara Fewster (1928 – 2024), who understood and deeply valued the importance of musicality.

We were grateful to Dame Monica Mason who attended Wednesday evening’s performance to present the Barbara Fewster Award for Musicality, in honour of her dear friend.

Dame Monica shared some special memories of her time spent with Barbara with the students, before presenting the new award to 1st Year student Minjun Suh who performed the Prince from David Bintley’s Cinderella, and 2nd Year student Wendel Vieira Teles Dos Santos who performed the Male variation from George Balanchine’s Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux.

For the first time, we also screened the Solos Evening dress rehearsal online for our digital Members to enjoy a peek behind the curtain from wherever they are around the world.

Thank you to the students and staff who worked so hard to prepare for the Solos Evening performances.
