The Royal Ballet School has two locations where our students are based (aside from two additional boarding houses for Upper School students): White Lodge in Richmond Park and Upper School in Floral Street, Covent Garden.

The Royal Ballet School also operates at other locations across the globe including many different Associate centres, as well as sites for Primary Steps and Intensive Courses.

White Lodge

White Lodge is a former Royal hunting lodge located in the heart of Richmond Park. It has been home to The Royal Ballet School’s younger students, aged 11-16, since 1955. You can learn more about the rich history of this 300-year-old building on our White Lodge History Timeline.

White Lodge is a quiet, picturesque setting in which to work, and retains the feel of a traditional boarding school. It is best reached by car or bike as it is some distance from public transport routes. There is a School minibus for our students which runs from the centre of Richmond and which, if there is space, staff can also use. This only runs in term-time, however, and only in line with the students’ timetable.

Upper School

Upper School is located in Floral Street, Covent Garden, opposite the Royal Opera House and linked to it by the striking and symbolic Bridge of Aspiration. It is home to the School’s older students, aged 16-19, and benefits from the buzz of being situated centrally in the heart of cultural London.

Upper School has the feel of a performing arts college with offices, compared to the more traditional setting of White Lodge. It contains six air-conditioned, state-of-the-art dance studios, a healthcare suite with a gym, pilates studio and physiotherapy treatment space, and an educational environment including an art studio and audiovisual suite.
